This is How I Shop for a New Car

Forget the show rooms and eager sales people!  Here is what we do.  If we are thinking about getting a new or used car, instead of test driving it at the sales outlet, we rent the model that interests us and test it out on a few days of vacation driving. 

I'd like to take credit for thinking that one up myself, but a car rental agency resolved the issue long ago when we had reserved a very small subcompact rental car for a trip up to Mesquite, Nevada.  We had flown into McCarran Airport in Las Vegas and gone to pick up our car, when we noticed all the employees of the rental office looking at us and laughing.  The clerk was laughing aloud as she looked over our paperwork, too.  What is wrong with us, we wondered.  Did we forget to put our clothes on?

The clerk kept apologizing even as she kept laughing, but finally managed to stammer out, "You guys really lucked out!  You are going to love this!"   In fact, we did, because the reason the were so amused was that all of their small, medium, and even large cars were already assigned to other people, and the only thing they had left on the lot was a brand deluxe minivan which they gave us for reserved price of the subcompact we expected.   By the time we were about twenty minutes north of Las Vegas we had already decided to buy ourselves one just like it as soon as we got back from the trip.  We did, too!

If you are visiting Las Vegas, I can say from first-hand experience that their location proximate to the Hard Rock Cafe is convenient because we have used it many times ourselves.   We are frugal shoppers and always look for the best prices.

With convenient worldwide locations, many vehicles to choose from, and great pricing, car rental is easy at Advantage.  Their website is attractive and easy to navigate.   When I go there, I always click on the link to their international locations just to see those Alpacas!    Whoever did the graphics on that website truly is my kind of artist.

Wherever you rent a car, though, there can be misunderstandings, so a proactive stance is recommended.  As in any business transaction, do read your contract and make you that you properly understands the terms and conditions.
